Introducing: The Spittin' Cobras

The Spittin' Cobras on Facebook
"The Spittin' Cobras play their own brand of Rock 'n' Roll, straight ahead and genuine. The music is razor sharp. It's cooked in the same kitchen as the meat and potatoes bands like Black Sabbath, The Stooges, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and Nirvana generously dumped on the silly cultural flambés of their respective time periods. The Spittin' Cobras local weekly picked up on this right away, “No joke, no question — The Spittin’ Cobras are everything that Rock ‘n’ Roll has been missing for 20 years."

FatCat Radio - As heard in 101 countries !!!

This morning it was verified that the FatCat Radio stream had reached the island country of Curaçao . Here's some background from Wikipedia on the 101st country that has 'Clicked on the Cat'

"Curaçao is an island in the southern Caribbean Sea, off the Venezuelan coast. The Country of Curaçao, which includes the main island plus the small, uninhabited island of Klein Curaçao, is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It has a land area of 171 square miles. As of 1 January 2009, it had a population of 141,766."

Since the much ballyhooed quest for Global Domination was reached earlier this month, I'm considering today's achievement (and any that follow) to be icing on the cake. Thanks for listening Curaçao!!!

VIDEO: The Strange Avenues - 'Til I Find It' (live)

The Strange Avenues performing my favorite track off their debut ep Bacchanalia (purchase info) last month at The Rosebud in Somerville, MA. Moving pictures are great aren't they? I mean I'm never gonna make it to New England to catch a gig. Yet I'm able to see visual evidence of what I already knew was true... The Strange Avenues = three very talented musicians.

VIDEO: The Rough Boys - 'Spithead'

www.theroughboys.com
"Their mandate is simple: Play loud, play fast, play mean! Give today’s public a modern interpretation of the timeless styles made popular by bands like Metallica, Motorhead, Bird and the like. Not Metal, not Classic Rock…but Cut-Throat Rock N’ Roll! They designed their sound to annihilate the completion with superior musicianship, volume and energy. They aim to kill. They are The Rough Boys."

ReverbNation Spotlight: Barely Legal

Barely Legal (Springfield, MA)
"We're a hard rocking blues influenced band that's been around the New England area since 2005. We've won some awards, including the 2009 Valley Advocate's Grand Band Slam for Blues band, played well over 100+ shows, and drank a lot of beer along the way. If you want to know more, come check us out live and feel free to buy us drinks."

Barely Legal came our way via the Music Submission Form back in January. They recently reformed after a couple year hiatus and are looking to get their name & the music out there. Barely Legal started as an original blues band before later morphing into a dual guitar hard rock act. You can pick up their cd Hot Rods, Hot Chicks, and Cold Beer! (which covers both eras of the band) at CDBaby.com. If the current price of $5.99 is too steep for you, well, FatCat Radio just might be able to help you out. Ahem.. *cough cough*.. psst. how does FREE sound to you?

Global Domination Update: 100 F**KING COUNTRIES !!!!

The quest for global domination is now complete.

Early Friday March 9, 2012 an independent music fan from Kingston, Jamaica sat at his or her computer, typed in www.fatcatradio.com, clicked on the cat, and tuned in to a portion of the 'Friday Six Pack' programming. With that simple act my silly little personal goal of "global domination" (self defined as reaching 100 countries around the world) became complete. Jamaica is now the 100th country confirmed as listening to the FatCat Radio stream. Global domination goal = met. Hell yeah!!!

Picture of the Week: TLV & fun with band stickers

The Last Vegas have been quite busy thus far in 2012, with a tour of Spain and having just wrapped up multiple shows with Guns N Roses. Despite the busy schedule they managed to squeeze in my favorite kind of fun with band stickers. I strongly encourage other bands to go this promotional route as well. And to provide photographic evidence of course.

VIDEO - Deathsquad Demongods : 'Apocalypse Joe'

EDITORS NOTE: While it is highly unorthodox to have back to back posts on the same artist, let alone back to back videos, I was told in no uncertain terms that "the collective FatCat ass" would be kicked if I didn't immediately present the brand new video from Deathsquad Demongods. Enjoy ..or else!

The Skinny - March 2012

BLOG STUFF: The Cat's Meow has a new address. No more 'blogspot' as part of the url. Update your bookmarks to blog.fatcatradio.com or not as you'll be redirected from the old one. It seems to have helped with the ol' Google ranking & has increased traffic. Also, check out the new search box over on the right. Not entirely all inclusive but it's a good starting point for searching content on the various FatCat Radio Network platforms. (Go ahead and Google yourself. You know you want to.)

MOST SEARCHED BANDS: The bands generating the most interest in the blog over the past few weeks in terms of Google, Bing, etc searches were as follows: Kentucky Bridgeburners, (first by a WIDE margin), Nashville Pussy, Rhino Bucket, Nine Pound Hammer, and Stoner Train.

STATION STATS: February 2012 saw a whopping 40% increase in website traffic versus February 2011. The top 5 countries reached were: USA, Germany, Sweden, Croatia, and Australia. 23% of all visits to the website were for 15 minutes or longer. Inexplicably the busiest day of the week was Tuesdays.

FRIDAY ON MY MIND: <-- Now that's an old reference. Great song though! In case you missed it, the FatCat Radio Friday Six Pack is now a regular deal at least for the foreseeable future. Extended sets from six artists airing from 6AM - 6PM CST on Fridays. The official debut on 2/17 brought the biggest single listening day since November 2010. In the coming weeks look for chances (exclusively here on the blog, f*ck Facebook!) to help select the playlist on Fridays.

FREE STUFF WINNERS: Congrats to Paul in MA, Billy in GA, Marvin in CA, and Jeff in OH. They each got themselves a FREE CD and sticker from The Budrows. It pays to be observant/Click on the Cat.

NEW NAME: Germany's Angus Dersim is going by the new moniker Blackbird to reflect the now fully formed band. New name, new website, new tour but it's still "only rock n roll".

NEW MUSIC: Stripwired, that little ol' band from Texas that sounds more like AC/DC than AC/DC, recently noted on their new ReverbNation page they are "currently working on a couple of more songs. We will post shortly." Great news as their debut was 10X's the record Black Ice was.

NEW GUITARIST: 8 Lives Spent have a new guitar picker as recently announced on their revamped website. "8 Lives Spent is very excited to announce the addition of guitarist Brian Evers to the fold. The former axeman for Barcode, Brian brings to the table a fresh new sound to the 8LS lineup, not to mention he’s simply awesome to work with."

SNEAK PEAK: American Dog is back in the studio putting the finishing touches on their as of yet unnamed new album. Here's a quick look at Steve Theado laying down some tracks.

IN THE BEGINNING: Blaine Cartwright's newest band The Kentucky Bridgeburners will be playing their debut gig SECOND GIG at SXSW on March 15th at Trophy's Bar in Austin, TX. UPDATED 3/6

Got news for The Cat's Meow? (Drop me a line)
